Abstract

Energy markets are in turmoil with winter on the horizon. A natural gas crunch in Europe has triggered a global energy crisis as power providers rush back to oil and coal to unleash an inflationary spiral just as demand begins to recover after the pandemic. The global energy sector is at the precipice, with unseasonably cool temperatures threatening to further derail market stability and exact a harsh human toll. Global Energy Center experts analyze the cause of the crisis, the path forward for worldwide energy markets, and the consequences for the energy transition ahead of climate negotiations in Glasgow.
